Biography ♥

Michael Holbrook Penniman, was born in Beruit, Lebanon on the 18th of August 1983.
Mika the thrid out of five children to be born to an American businessman father, and a Lebanese clothes designer mother.

Mika and his family were forced to move from war-torn Lebanon when he was very young, and they moved to Paris. It was in Paris he wrote his first piano instrumental called Angry. When Mika was eight years old, his father went to Kuwait on a business trip- the country had been invaded by Saddam Hussein and Mika’s father was held hostage in the American Embassy for several months.

When Mika was nine years old they moved and settled in London. He attended the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, in South Kensington and the Royal College of Music in Westminster. He later dropped out, because he experienced bullying which later led him to a "little breakdown" at the age of eleven.
After his school drop out, his mother decided to educate him at home, and hired a Russian music teacher called Alla Ardakov (Ablaberdyeva), who helped him to transform his voice to 3.5 octare singing.

Being taught by Alla Ardakov (Ablaberdyeva) was the start of something new. He performed the chorus line of a Strauss opera at the Royal Opera House, when he was still very young.
He also went on to do other music-related things, such as:
*create the music for an Orbit chewing gum jingle
*write British Airways in-flight music

He also had a few TV apperances, and showed up on Jools Holland, and The Friday Night Project. Mika topped the BBC News' influential Sounds of 2007 poll.

His first single was Grace Kelly, which reached number one in 2007, and a month after the album, Life In Cartoon Motion, produced by Greg Wells (Casablanca Music), was released. It sold over 6 million copies worldwide, and over 1,300,000 copies were sold in the first twelve weeks. The artwork was created by one of his sisters, who works under the name DaWack.

Many reviews of the first album compared Mika to a number of established artists, such as Freddie Mercury (from Queen), The Scissor Sisters, Robbie Williams, Dave Bowie, and Elton John.  

Mika won three awards at the 2007 World Music Awards: B
est Selling Pop/Rock Male Artist, Best Selling New Artist, , and Best Selling British Artist.

He recieved more awards than any other artist in that year, and he was the first to win three awards in one year.

In Febuary 2008 he played at the 50th Grammy Awards. That same month, he opened the 2008 Brit Awards.

Currently, he has released an album; The Boy Who Knew Too Much, and three singles; We Are Golden, Rain and Blame It On The Girls.
His tour for this album is starting in Belfast.

Mika has made many famous friends in the past three years of his 'stardom' including, Lady Gaga, and Christian Louboutin (a shoe designer).
